THE BRIEF
The Batman presented a specific and demanding creative challenge: how do you design technology for a character who is defined by his rejection of ostentation? Bruce Wayne in Reeves' interpretation is not a billionaire showing off his resources. He is someone who builds what he needs and nothing more. The brief was to create screen content for computers, televisions and screens across Gotham City, the GCPD and the Batcave — all of which had to feel like the product of that specific psychology.
THE CREATIVE APPROACH
Territory's approach was governed by a single discipline: every design decision had to be character-led rather than aesthetically driven. Batman's surveillance and communication systems are configured for pure functionality — sophisticated enough to operate alone, stark enough to reflect the obsessive, monastic quality of his methods. The Gotham Square Garden sequences — where mayoral candidate Bella Reál addresses the city before terrorists threaten its destruction — required a different register: public-facing civic technology, corrupted and repurposed as a stage for violence. Territory designed systems that worked across both registers without losing the visual consistency of the film's overall aesthetic.
Working closely with the production team from pre-production through to VFX delivery meant Territory could ensure the technology evolved as the story did — not designed as a set of assets but as a living part of the world Reeves was building.
THE OUTCOME
The Batman grossed over $770 million worldwide and received widespread critical acclaim for its visual atmosphere and tonal consistency. The film's aesthetic — including the screen design — was frequently cited as one of the most coherent and character-consistent superhero productions in recent memory. For Territory, the project demonstrated the studio's ability to subordinate aesthetic instinct to character logic — producing work that disappears into the story rather than drawing attention to itself.
