THE BRIEF
Dune: Prophecy sits 10,000 years before Paul Atreides. The Bene Gesserit are not yet the shadow power they become, they are in the process of becoming it, building the influence, the genetic programmes and the institutional power that will eventually shape the known universe. Territory was brought in to develop motion graphics and interfaces that served that specific historical and political moment: technology that felt ancient even by Dune standards, rooted in ceremony and ritual rather than in the practical physicality of the later Atreides world.
THE CREATIVE APPROACH
The discipline established across Dune Parts 1 and 2 of no digital computation, everything physical and analogue applied here with even greater strictness. If the Atreides ornithopter controls felt like they were made by engineers who cared about their craft, the technology of Prophecy had to feel made by an institution that understood power in biological and generational terms. Objects that had been used for centuries. Systems that existed not to be efficient but to be authoritative. The visual language deliberately resisted the temptation to show more advanced technology simply because the show was set in an earlier era, in Huxley's universe, technological regression had been the point. Territory held that logic throughout.
THE OUTCOME
Dune: Prophecy launched on HBO Max in 2024 to strong critical reception, extending the Dune universe's cultural presence into television while maintaining the visual standard established by Villeneuve's films. The project confirmed Territory as the definitive visual language partner for the Dune universe across all its current expressions — film, television and, potentially, future formats.
