Immersive Data Experience

THE BRIEF

The Neglected Tropical Diseases prevention programme represents one of the most significant achievements in global public health — a coordinated effort to address diseases that disproportionately affect the world's poorest populations. At the 2017 NTD Summit in Geneva, the programme's milestone achievements needed to be communicated to an audience of global health leaders, policymakers and funders in a way that conveyed not just the scale of the data but the human significance behind it. Beyond Words Studio brought Territory in to transform their creative concept into a visual experience worthy of that material.

THE CREATIVE APPROACH

Territory's challenge was to make data move like a story. Individual data elements, numbers representing people treated, diseases reduced, regions reached were transformed through flowing, morphing transitions that connected them into a continuous visual narrative. The logic of the animation was emotional rather than informational: audiences were not meant to read the data, they were meant to feel its momentum. The distinction between a statistic and a human life was held in the quality of the transitions, the way one element became another, each transformation carrying the suggestion of change at human scale.

Projected onto a bespoke 30m x 5m canvas, the four-minute animation formed a dynamic backdrop to the summit proceedings, giving the event a visual presence that matched the gravity of what was being discussed.

THE OUTCOME

Cascade demonstrated Territory's ability to operate in contexts far beyond entertainment and brand, applying our story-driven creative approach to public health data with the same rigour it brings to a film production. The project has since become one of the studio's most referenced examples of data storytelling, and one of the clearest demonstrations that the methodology — begin with feeling, not with format — is sector-agnostic.
